The
Olivia Act is an initiative that I have joined and was started by a lovely photographer who wishes to remain anonymous.
It is named after one one of the children killed in Newtown. Olivia’s family had pictures taken a short time before she was killed on that horrible day. Upon hearing about this, the photographer was moved to give away a 30 minute family photo shoot to a family that could use a session for some family photos, and has challenged other photographers to do the same. I’d like to take part in this and give a free session to a family that would otherwise not be able to afford a custom photography session.
Many of us photographers are parents and were deeply saddened by the recent news out of Newtown CT, and many of us felt there was no way to help or to commemorate the children. So, if you are so inclined, here is our chance. Photographers are participating as far away as South Africa, Japan, Australia, Canada and of course the United States.
HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?
Nominate a family in need. I will be taking nominations for a family who you think would appreciate this gift of photos. The session will take place sometime in the next few months (depending on weather). You can email your nominations to me at b.anderson.photography@gmail.com with the subject “Olivia Act”. Please include the family’s name, contact info, and why you’re nominating them. I’ll be taking nominations through January 31st and notify the family by February 8th. Their session will remain anonymous and will not be posted here as anything other than a regular family session.
I will give a 30 minutes session and the digital images to the chosen family.
This is my way of helping, if I can bring joy to one family with my photos, it will certainly feel good in the face of all this tragedy.
Please share this effort. If you are a photographer, consider participating too and share this post!
THANKS! ♥
